Self-educated, I began my career as an artist-activist and illustrator in 2017. Using digital art, gouache, marker, pen, and ink, I created work for non-profit organizations and community-led initiatives fighting for anti-deportation, police abolition, democractic rights, and beyond. My illustrations have been published by Haymarket Books (2022), UCLA (2020), University of Minnesota (2019), among others.

I’ve worked with clients such as: Stanford University, Rhode Island School of Design, Minneapolis Institute of Art, Minnesota Museum of American Art, Lamba Legal, Race Forward, Building Movement Project, Minnesota Council of Nonprofits, and more.

I hold an MFA in Illustration from the Rhode Island School of Design (2025) and a BA in Social Justice, Leadership, and Communication Studies from the University of Minnesota Twin Cities (2014). I now pursue a fine art practice which draws upon my experience as an illustrator: shaping narratives, engaging communities, and making art accessible.

Within queer theory and praxis, Tori Hong pursues drawing, installation, social practice, and textiles while her artistic research focuses on agency and survivance from a diasporic Hmong and Korean perspective. Hong’s work relies on intuition to hold space for complex narratives and create hybridized healing pathways for herself, her ancestors, and future generations.
